Beryl Cook O.B.E 
1926 – 2008

Beryl’s passion for painting began in Southern Rhodesia in the 1950’s after picking up some paints belonging to her son John. She painted on any surface that came to hand. Returning to England in 1963 the Cooks lived in Cornwall where she began to paint in earnest. They later moved to Plymouth: a city Beryl loved. 

Lively, thriving with local pubs, fishermen and sailors- all the colour and character we all know and love in her paintings. Her passions didn’t end with painting, one of her lesser known talents was embroidery. We are lucky enough to have a few of her pieces on display at the exhibition.
