Two distinctive artists each with their own language, but juxtaposed in this exhibition.; there is a recognisable conversation taking place.

York-based Carol Douglas paints on canvas with a pallet of wonderful earth tones. Her subject matter of stylised figures and household objects has a slight resonance to the 50s ‘Kitchen Sink Movement’ After a very successful one person show at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park in 2024 Carol’s career has gone from strength to strength.

Maureen Brigden – London born, but now lives and works in Chichester. Twice exhibiting at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.2024 – ‘People Like Us’ 2025 – ‘Unadorned’ Maureen has achieved that wonderful crossover with her work, she is both considered a ceramic artist and a sculptor. Always choosing to hand build and work instinctively with different clays, including some locally sourced. T

This can of course bring with it some disappointing firings but also fascinating results. Her work often reflects history local to her area and wider political and cultural events. We are excited to bring these two artists together and feel sure you will enjoy the connections in their work.
