Richard Kenton Webb
Biographical information
Webb has lived and worked in the Southwest since graduating from the Royal College of Art in 1986. He moved from Gloucestershire to Plymouth in October 2020 to take up the post of Course Leader for Painting, Drawing and Printmaking BA and Painting MA at Arts University Plymouth.
Webb has embraced ocean city life, with his home and studio just minutes from the art college where he is growing a community of artists in world class studios.
Webb has been pushing to understand and teach colour as a language since 1998. He works internationally as an expert on colour, but values the English narrative tradition of the Slade, weaving back to Nash, Spencer, Palmer, and Blake. He also works within a literary tradition that draws from visionaries like Dante and Milton. His Conversation with Milton’s Paradise Lost, 2011-21, has led to two commissions; a solo show at Milton’s Cottage this year; and a chapter in The Synergies of Drawing and Painting Paradise Lost, Milton Across Borders and Media, OUP.
In 2020, he won the Sunny Art Prize, followed by two London solo shows. His Conversation with Milton’s Paradise Lost has opened new international possibilities.
Webb is passionate about advocating for the arts, sharing best practice and endangered skills. He believes that creatives can shape identity and build hope in our age of uncertainty.
He is represented by Benjamin Rhodes Arts, London.
