I am an Irish born artist based in Cornwall. I have a BA (hons) from Belfast Collage of Art. Always a painter, I began exploring printmaking around 2010 and it quickly became central to my artistic practice.
Most of my prints are monotypes that build layer upon layer as I develop the image, often including areas of chine collé. I also make small edition collagraphs.
My work is process driven, colour, shape and pattern are the central elements. I usually prefer not to use prepared sketches or plans, but rather allow my initial ideas to evolve as I respond to the marks I make and the play between control and spontaneity that I find so exciting in the printmaking process.
I have had many solo and mixed shows and my prints have been exhibited in the National Original Print Exhibition in London and The Royal West of England Academy Open.
I am an elected member of The Plymouth Society of Artists and The 21 Group.
Feeling the love
We spent some time looking for someone who could produce some solid wooden frames to mount our medals in. James, listened carefully to what we wanted and made us the exact high-quality frame we needed. Since then, we re-order every couple of weeks including some complex bespoke frames. We have been working together for about 10 years and I couldn’t recommend The Framing Centre highly enough.
Artmill Gallery & Framing Centre are our go to framers for The Arts Institute, University of Plymouth. They have a particular empathy for artists requirements and always produce work to the highest quality. Many of our exhibiting artists have been so impressed with the outcome that they go on to use Artmill for all their work.
