JENIFER JAYARAJAH
Jennifer Jayarajah studied and subsequently worked at London College of Fashion, University of the Arts, prior to a move to Plymouth where she now lives and works. She studied Fine Art at Plymouth College of Art, gaining a first class honours degree. She is currently in the process of completing the masters programme at the college.

These unique crystal sculptures are created using the lost wax method of casting glass. Initially the sculpture is made in wax and then cast in plaster.

The wax is then removed by steam, leaving the negative form. Following several weeks of drying, the plaster mould is filled with small pieces of lead crystal and fired in a kiln. After three days it can be removed from the kiln and the plaster can be chipped and then soaked away leaving the crystal sculpture. Once thorough cleaning and polishing has been completed, it is prepared for the silver work.

Jennifer completes each stage of the process by hand. Due to the nature and complexity of the production combined with the delicacy of each sculpture; for every five wax forms created only one will become a piece of jewellery of exhibition standard.

The silversmith uses best quality sterling silver.

Glass is inherently fragile and therefore care must be taken if the pieces are to be worn.
