BRIAN POLLARD
Brian Pollard is widely acclaimed as one of the most popular and successful naive painters in the South West of England. Much as he dislikes labels, Brian describes his highly individual work with an equally distinctive phrase: "decorative romantic". Reviewing one of Brian's many sell-out exhibitions at Plymouth's Barbican Gallery, the Western Morning News pointed out that although innumerable artists have tried to recreate naive styles, few actually succeed: "There is all the more to appreciate in the expertise and sheer brilliance of Brian Pollard". The late Arts critic Daniel Farson, who reviewed two of Brian's exhibitions for the Mail on Sunday, commented that Brian's work has "a cheerfulness so welcome ---- a universal appeal".
